Off-Campus and Commuter Student Engagement is here for you!!
Welcome Commuter Students! Commuter Students are those students who live outside of the University District and must drive or utilize public transportation from home to attend class. The office of Off-Campus and Commuter Student Engagement provides several services for commuting students to assist them while on campus including the commuter lounge, lockers, microwave and refrigerator, study space and information on campus programs and resources.
Off-Campus and Commuter Student Engagement is dedicated to creating an extraordinary experience for commuter students at The Ohio State University. Employed by OCCSE, Commuter Liaisons are Ohio State commuter students who work to enhance the commuter experience by providing engaging programs, useful resources and availability to answer questions and point you in the right direction. To contact a CL, stop by 3106 Ohio Union or email us today at email@example.com
The Commuter Liaisons (CL) host a variety of events to engage the commuter student body at Ohio State. These events are held throughout the year in various areas around campus such as the west campus Carmacks, Fred Beekman Park and the Ohio Union. Recent CL events include cookie decorating, Fall Fest, Hello Hillel, Commuter Chill-outs, Good Morning Commuters and more. Attending these events is a great way to meet other commuters and to get to know your Community Liaisons!
Commuter Preview Day
Commuter Preview Day is a one day, orientation-like program created specifically for new commuter students. The office of Off-Campus and Commuter Student Engagement sponsors this program and provides new commuters the opportunity to:
- Practice parking in the West Campus or Central Campus parking lots.
- Practice using the CABS Bus system (which shuttles student from and to the parking lots).
- Find all of your classroom buildings (even the exact rooms).
- Visit the bookstore to purchase books.
- Take care of any campus business (such as getting your BuckID).
- Meet other new commuter students.
- Get helpful information to help you get started at Ohio State.
Every month during the school year, the Commuter Liaisons release a commuter newsletter. The Commuter Newsletter features useful on-campus resources, upcoming events and a Commuter Spotlight. If you miss a newsletter or you just want to re-listen to the monthly commuter playlist, archives can be found under the “Commuter Newsletter” tab.
On the first day of each semester, OCCSE welcomes commuter students to come and reserve a locker. Lockers are located in the Ohio Union and the Younkin Success Center. Lockers are reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis. Visit 3106 Ohio Union at 8 a.m. on the first day of classes to reserve a locker.
OCCSE also offers other resources to commuter students such as the Commuter Kitchen and the Sigma Phi Epsilon (commuter) lounge. The Commuter Kitchen is located in 3001B Ohio Union. Features include: two large refrigerators, two microwave ovens, a sink with garbage disposal and full cabinets and counter tops. Commuter students may store lunches and beverages in the kitchen.
Located next to the Commuter Kitchen, you can find the Sigma Phi Epsilon lounge. The Sigma Phi Epsilon (commuter) lounge includes couches, chairs and tables to relax or study in between classes. No form is needed to gain access to the Phi Sigma Epsilon lounge.
