International Students

Welcome to OSU! Bienvenue! Willkommen! Hola! Namaste! Xin chào! Kon-nichiwa!

We welcome the opportunity to serve well over 2000 International Students each year. We work very closely with the Office of International Education to assist in serving each student. We have dictionaries in our office in many different languages and some of our printed material is also offered in various languages.

  • Understanding Leases (PDF Document).
  • Explanation of Common English Terms (PDF Document).
  • ALWAYS BE SURE TO KEEP A COPY OF YOUR SIGNED LEASE as well as any other communication between you and your landlord.
  • Remember that you have the same rights as any other tenant. Generally, once you sign a lease, you will be required to pay a security deposit (usually equivalent to one month's rent) and also the first month's rent. Your security deposit will be refunded to you within 30 days after your lease ends, as long as your apartment is clean and in the same condition as when you first moved in and you provide a forwarding address.
    • If you feel that the landlord's requirements are outrageous and you are being discriminated against (PDF Document), contact The Student Housing Legal Clinic immediately at (614) 247-5853.
    • If you are an international student (PDF Document) and the landlord has different stipulations for you versus an American student, you may want to contact The Student Legal Housing Clinic at (614) 247-5853.

  • International Friendships has a Garage Sale Shopping Service, which is held at the end of each summer. This is an opportunity for International Students to buy household items at a cheap rate. International Friendships can also provide a free ride to the various sales. For more information on this service, please contact their office at (614) 294-2434.
  • The International Student Housing Orientation, "How To Find An Apartment" (which is part of the Office of International Education's full day orientation) will be held in our office (15 East 15th Avenue, Columbus, OH 43201). Call OCSS at 614.292.0100 for dates and times.
