Community Organizations and Meetings

Connecting People, Communities & Opportunities

Off-Campus Student Services takes part in various community organizations and meetings. Ohio State students, neighborhood residents, business people and others are welcome to serve on these committees and task forces which are working to improve the quality of life for all the people who live and work in the neighborhoods around the university.

University District Organization (UDO)

UDO is a non-profit community improvement organization incorporated in 1971. UDO is an "organization of organizations" and is governed by a board of trustees representing community groups, social service agencies, businesses, local government and area institutions.

Campus Partners Student Advisory Board.

Founded in the spring of 1996, this board sponsors public forums and other activities to give Ohio State students a voice in community improvements. The board holds public meetings each quarter to offer input on various Campus Partners projects. Any student is welcome to join the board. For more information, call Campus Partners at 294-7300.

High Street Neighborhoods Coalition

The High Street Neighborhoods Coalition serves as the editorial board for the High Street Neighborhoods Guide and advisory committee for the High Street Neighborhoods Fund. This fund supports projects and services that enhance the quality of life and economic vitality of High Street and its surrounding neighborhoods.

University Community Business Association (UCBA)

Founded in 1984, UCBA works on behalf of the local business community, including property owners and developers, retails and service businesses, and The Ohio State University.

University Area Safety Coordinating Committee

Composed of representatives of city, state and university law enforcement agencies, neighborhood and business organizations, university offices and students, this committee focuses on safety issues throughout the University District and works with the Columbus Division of Police on community policing issues. The committee normally meets on the second Wednesday of each month in the afternoon.

University Community Association (UCA)

UCA is the oldest civic association in the University District and one of the oldest in the city. It is a voluntary membership organization that meets quarterly. The UCA executive committee meets monthly.

University Area Safety Committee.

University Area Crime Stoppers

This program is an affiliate of the Central Ohio Crime Stoppers Program and offers cash rewards to the public for anonymous tips that help solve crimes. The University Area Crime Stoppers Board meets monthly. For information, call Campus Partners at 294-7300.

Campus Partners Public Service Committee

Neighborhood and university representatives are working with city agencies to improve to refuse collection and street sweeping throughout the University District. The committee members dealing with refuse collection meet about six times a year. The committee members dealing with street sweeping meet about twice a year.

University District Code Enforcement Task Force

This task force, composed of citizens and city staff members who enforce building, housing and health codes, is charged with reviewing code problems in the area. The task force most recently oversaw a program of systematic exterior code enforcement in the University District. The task force normally meets on the second Tuesday of each month.

Lunch Bunch

University faculty and staff involved in projects in the University District gather monthly for a brown bag lunch with speaker and discussion in the Campus Partners office. Community members and students are welcome to attend. For information on the Lunch Bunch, contact the University Outreach and Engagement Office at 688-3041.
