Roommate Issues
- Are you and your roommate(s) having problems? Are you seeking a neutral third party to mediate? Off-Campus Student Services does offer mediation services, but your roommate(s) must be willing to attend the mediation session. OCSS cannot force them to participate. So avoiding conflicts with roommates ahead of time will save you time and possibly money in the future. If your roommate(s) are willing to participate in a mediation session, please contact OCSS to schedule an appointment.
- Remember, The Student Housing Legal Clinic is available to assist in Landlord-Tenant issues, but they cannot assist in roommate conflicts.
- The best way to avoid roommate conflicts is to be clear on all expectations from day one! Sign a Roommate Contract (Word Document) with all your roommates from the very beginning.

- Many times roommate issues do not get resolved, even after a mediation session. In cases like this, students sometimes choose to move-out of the unit but are still legally bound to their lease. OCSS can assist in helping to advertise for a new roommate.
OCSS also hosts quarterly Roommate Fairs. This gives students an opportunity to network with fellow students in a casual environment and meet potential roommates. Roommate Fairs are typically held the 6th week of Fall, Winter and Spring Quarters. OCSS generally holds at least two Roommate Fairs during the summer quarter, sometimes even three. Roommate Fairs are held in the evening hours in the OCSS office, 15 East 15th Avenue. As soon as a date has been scheduled for each quarter's Roommate Fair, OCSS will post the date on the website.
