I had the opportunity to work for Willie for three years at OCCSS. Willie was one of the kindest men I knew and he was always dedicated to doing what was best for others. He worked hard to make sure that all students at Ohio State had a fun and safe experience. I'll never forget sitting in his office (that was more like a museum) and listening to all of the impressive stories he had made over the years.

Nicknamed by Willie as: "Chief"
I met Mr Young while serving with Columbus Police through the UCBA, CCP and UDO groups. He was a notable presence in many organizations. Later, when I became Chief of the OSU Police Department we worked closely together on campus community safety issues. WIllie was a hero in my view. He was tireless in his commitment to OSU Students and the City of Columbus. Always a gentleman and positive in his connection with people. He will be missed.

Nicknamed by Willie as: Ohio's First and Finest
One of my favorite memories of Willie is watching the first round of the NCAA men's basketball tournament as part of a charity event. We were talking about the great basketball teams that went to the NCAA tournament from the MAC. Willie was a big BGSU Falcons fan and I am a big OU Bobcats fan (hence my nickname). But we also talked about other things too, like how I was doing in my new role (I had just joined Ohio State), where I was from (high school mascot included), and the importance of helping students prepare for life after college. He made people feel good being around him and he believed the best in people. I miss his hearty chuckles and talking about our beloved alma maters, and of course, cheering on our Buckeyes.

I only had the pleasure of meeting Willie formally one time. I introduced myself. He asked what high school I went to. I said, Copley High School and he responded with "Oh the Copley Indians!" I have NO idea how he would know that, but he did. What a mind. What a man.

Willie was one of a kind. The world could use more people like Willie in these troubling times. He always had a big smile and friendly greeting. I loved playing trivia with him. Ohio State has lost a giant representative. Many thoughts and prayers to his family.
