Community Events

Willie J. Young Sr. Off-Campus and Commuter Student Engagement works to build community in the off-campus area by hosting several events and encouraging students to socialize and meet their fellow community members. It is our belief that a stronger sense of community fosters pride and respect, consequently making the off-campus community a better place to visit and live for everyone.

Off-Campus Community Welcome

Each year, during the week prior to the start of class, Off-Campus and Commuter Student Engagement along with volunteers from the Office of Student Life welcome new and returning residents in the University District. The event welcomes returning students back and introduces the Community Ambassador Program and provides students with essential information regarding their off-campus rights and responsibilities.

This year, the Office of Student Life is bringing to fruition a student recommendation and handing out welcome bags with relevant items such as household supplies, coupons for local businesses, food items and more!

The bags were distributed throughout the University District on August 18 and 19

Welcome Back Food Truck Event

A big thank you to everyone who joined us on August 20!

Ongoing Community Events

Each Community Ambassador will host several community events throughout the semester in the University District. These events focus on safety education and resources, community building and good neighbor education.
