Willie Young, Sr. was a Buckeye legend, a trusted friend, advisor to many and an advocate for all Ohio State students. Having been with the university since 1990, Willie leaves a legacy that will never be forgotten.

I worked as a student in OCCSS and ever since Willie has had a lasting impact on my time at OSU. I would still frequently visit the office even after I graduated to say hi. Anyone who knows Willie knows he was a trivia master and we would go back and forth sharing interesting trivia facts. It was always nice running into him randomly around campus. You'll be missed Willie!

Willie was an amazingly kind hearted and genuine person. His knowledge of Ohio State, other Collegiate schools, the world, and general trivia was astonishing. He lit up the room when he walked in and never failed to make me laugh. I am so thankful to have gotten to know him as one of his student employees. He truly helped to shape my experience as a Buckeye and in true Office of Student Life fashion, helped to make my student experience at OSU extraordinary.

Willie was a great mentor to me while I was assigned to the Joint Patrol unit for OSUPD. He and I would spend many evenings and nights talking with students. One of my favorite memories of Willie was watching him tell someone what their high school mascot was. It always made a direct connection to that person and opened up conversation. Willie also shared a lot of his experiences as a young man with me and that had a great impact on what kind of officer I strive to be.

Mr. Willie Young touched so many people's lives, including mine. He went above and beyond to make sure students were safe even if that meant driving around campus until 2 am. I have never met someone so committed to their position. He was a pillar of The Ohio State Community, he embodied what it meant to be a buckeye although he loved Bowling Green more :)! I loved his stories and especially having the opportunity to hear him name students' high school mascots from memory. What an amazing, kind, generous, intelligent, funny human being. He never met a stranger and boy could he tell a story or funny joke. I am so grateful to have known him and I will hold on to the wonderful memories I have of him. God blessed us with a wonderful soul! #7thDegreeofWillieYoung

Willie Young was one of my first student organization advisors and later one of my first professional supervisors. One of the most important things he taught me was to look for the unique and dynamic qualities in every student you meet. I carry that lesson with me everyday in my work, and will forever be grateful for having that wonderful lesson shared with me by such an extraordinary person. Thank you! You will be greatly missed.
